Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday Celebration (Mawlid An-Nabi)

The Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday is a very unique and special day for Muslims all over the world. It is celebrated to honor Prophet Muhammad and to commemorate his birth in the month of Rabi al-Awal. The celebration involves many Islamic traditions such as reading the Quran, giving charity, feeding people, visiting family and friends, holding religious gatherings, reciting poems about the Prophet and much more.

A Brief History of the Prophet life :

Prophet Muhammad peace and blessing upon him (PBUH) was the last Prophet and beloved messenger of Allah Almighty.  He belongs to the oldest and noblest tribe of Arab named ‘Banu Hashim’, ruled by Abd al-Muttalib, the grandfather of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). They were the leader of Banu Hashim and known as the defender of the “Kabah”.

In Mecca, a child Muhammad was born in the holy month of Rabi” al-Awwal (the third month in the Islamic calendar), 570 AD. Abdullah, son of “Abd al-Muttalib, ” was Prophet Muhammad’s father (PBUH); he died before Prophet’s birth. Then he was raised by his respected mother, Aminah Binte Wahab; after this, when Muhammad PBUH reached the age of six, he lost his mother. Now the hard phase of Prophet Muhammad PBUH’s life started when he lost both his parents and then his Grandfather, “Abd al-Muttalib, took his responsibility.

 At the age of ten, Prophet’s grandfather died, then his uncle Abu Talib became his guardian. Our beloved Prophet Muhammad PBUH was a very gentle, soft-spoken, tall, and handsome man. Later, Muhammad PBUH accompanied his uncle Abu Talib in trading. At the age of 40, Prophet Muhammad PBUH had received revelation from Allah through Jibril A.S, and this process continued till the age of 63.

After the brief history, let’s start the discussion on Prophet Muhammad PBUH’s birthday celebration.

Mawlid An-Nabi

The birthday of our respected Prophet was the biggest day for Muslims in the history of Islam because our religion belongs to him. Muslims celebrate Mawlid an-Nabi with great love and respect; this day is the 3rd Eid in Islam after Eid ul Fitr and Eid ul Adha. Mawlid An-Nabi has great importance in Islam; several extraordinary events happened one after the other because the Pride of Islam Muhammad PBUH was coming to the world to complete our Deen (religion), Islam.

Firstly, Aminah A.S saw in her dream that a holy light came up from her womb that brightened the castles of Syria. When he was born, a fragrance spread down everywhere. The night when Prophet Muhammad PBUH was born, a red star shone up in the sky, seeing this by Jews who predicted that al-Nabi was arriving. A mysterious incident happened when Persia’s worshipers’ fire that had been burning for centuries suddenly breathed out. The emptied lake of Samawah from the valley of Samawah was flooded when Prophet Muhammad PBUH was born. Fourteen towers of Sovereignty Kisra’s Palace in the city of Madayin had crackled and fell spontaneously. Most of the idols, which covered the Qaaba with darkness and filthiness, broke and fell down.

These are some unusual events that took place when our beloved Prophet Muhammad PBUH was born, which made this day even more special in the history of Islam. Allah says:

“Our Lord send unto them a messenger from among themselves to show them your signs, to teach them the Qur’an and wisdom, and to purify them. You are All-Mighty and All-Wise.” (The Qur’an Al-Baqarah 128).

The birthday of Prophet Muhammad PBUH is celebrated with great zeal and zest across the world. In most Muslim countries around the globe, there is a public holiday on 12th Rabi ul AWAL. The street is lightened up, and Islamic songs were played with high volume everywhere in our beloved country Tunisia. In Tunisia, people celebrate Milad un Nabi with so much devotion, in which people recite Quran after this a program of Islamic song recitation was held, and then food was served.

Some people distribute food to show their happiness on the birthday of Muhammad PBUH. Families will prepare a very delicious sweet on this occasion called “Zgugu” that is made with the Aleppo pines. People wish Eid Milad un-Nabi Mubarak to each other. We are so proud that we are the Ummah of a great leader Muhammad PBUH, ALLAH’s most beloved Nabi.
